We’re pumped to play a part in the awesome festival that is North by Northeast. NXNE is known for hosting emerging talent, “buzz bands,” and international acts in the heart of Toronto. Our own Jeremy Fisher and Said the Whale have been featured artists, and you bet the HP Club is back for more this year.

We’re excited to have Edmonton pop-rock outfit Royal Tusk join the Hidden Pony family for their upbeat debut EP, Mountain. You might even recognise frontman Daniel Carriere and bassist Sandy MacKinnon from the JUNO-nominated group Ten Second Epic. The veteran musicians are set to tour Mountain across the country from Toronto to Saskatoon this month. For fans, this is just one way to get to know Royal Tusk. Recently, our friends over at Audio Blood trekked to High Park Dog Park with a couple of cameras to gauge some dog groupies’ reactions to Mountain. The dogs in attendance were taking in the morning sun when “Shadow of Love”, Royal Tusk’s debut single, started pumping.Between the track’s carefree take on lost love and the impeccable album artwork hanging from the trees, these dogs couldn’t get enough of it. Now is just the beginning. This June, Edmonton rockers Royal Tusk will release their debut EP – Mountain. Made up of six-tracks produced by Gus Van Go and Werner F (The Stills, Said the Whale, Hollerado), Mountain delivers a taste of what is to come from this new pop-rock group.


Bringing together Daniel Carriere and Sandy MacKinnon of two-time JUNO Award nominated group Ten Second Epic and recognized Edmonton rockers Motorbike James, J. Eygenraam and Kurtis Schultz, Royal Tusk is no stranger to the climb. Taking its first step to the top, the band will release its first single, “Shadow of Love” on May 26, kicking off the new EP with an upbeat vibe and catchy lyrics. Preview the track online here.

Hamilton-based indie label, Hidden Pony Records is celebrating its fifth birthday with same day, back-to-back shows (Toronto afternoon at The Horseshoe Tavern and Hamilton evening at This Ain’t Hollywood) on Friday June 20 – during NXNE 2014. Featuring sets from some of the label’s current roster including; 2014 Juno nominated indie-rock collective, Rah Rah, new Hidden Pony pop-rock signing, Royal Tusk and veteran management clients, Odds – with the daytime addition of the critically adored The Danks (at the Toronto show only).

The daytime Toronto show at The Horseshoe will be open to all NXNE wristbands and delegates, and the Hamilton gig at This Ain’t Hollywood is free to first arrivals, in addition to guest listed media, music industry, friends and family. There will be special HBHP (Happy Birthday Hidden Pony) prizing at both shows, with a VIP gifting lounge in Toronto as well as unique art pieces specially curated for the party and reflecting the album art and titles of some of Hidden Pony acts– courtesy of artists Annie Webber and Coco Guzman.
