Twin Within and Hidden Pony Records, in partnership with the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra (HPO), are thrilled to announce the forthcoming special reinterpretation of Twin Within’s 2015 debut album, Horizontal Lines. The project’s recording will commence this January at Hamilton Place, with well-known local filmmaker, Mitch Fillion, of Southern Souls, stepping behind the camera to capture the whole experience. The campaign will showcase the beauty of Twin Within’s music, while shining a light on Hamilton’s ever-growing artistic community. Other Hamiltonians involved in the project are producer Kirk Starkey, and composer Christien Ledroit.

The genesis of the idea came from Executive Producer of the project and Hidden Pony President, “Parkside” Mike Renaud. “I wanted to find a way to stretch what the band had accomplished with Horizontal Lines, and that record lends itself so well to this unique ‘made-in Hamilton’ collaboration. It’s an incredible project to bring to fruition and it’s done in part with help from the Ontario Music Fund.”

Twin Within principal performer, Steve McKay, is thrilled at the prospect of working alongside members of the HPO and frequent HPO collaborator composer Christien Ledroit. Working with the HPO is basically our equivalent of being asked to pitch for the Blue Jays. Growing up in Hamilton, the orchestra was a huge part of my musical upbringing, so you can imagine my delight when this came together. Composer Chris Ledroit and I have taken full advantage of the orchestra’s versatility with these arrangements, landing somewhere between the SMiLE Beach Boys sessions and Tchaikovsky!”

The HPO ensemble will feature 2 violins, 1 cello, 1 double bass, 1 flute/piccolo, 1 clarinet and 2 percussionists. HPO’s executive director, Carol Kehoe, says; “We’re excited to partner with Twin Within and Hidden Pony on this project. Participating in new and innovative ideas that bring together different genres to offer unique arts experiences for audiences is something the HPO is very dedicated to. This is evidenced in our work with local emerging bands in our Indie Series, and in this special collaborative recording project. We’re particularly excited to work with Twin Within for this ‘made in Hamilton’ project.”

The live reinterpretation of Horizontal Lines will be released in the first half of 2016 via Hidden Pony Records. Since its inception, Hidden Pony has always been committed to taking part in Hamilton’s music community by helping organize such annual events as SuperCrawl, and acting as co-producer of the 2015 Juno Awards. The HPO is also a well-recognized support network for musicians, as seen in their Indie Series project, which was launched in June. This new initiative has been giving Hamiltonians the chance to see the HPO perform with emerging local bands such as Hachey the MouthPEACE (2013), Thought Beneath Film (2014) and Illitry (2015).
